As part of the Season of Campodia in NYC in April 2013, there is an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Cambodian artists.
These drawings are by Vann Nath, who was a prisoner of the Kymer Rouge.
Vann Nath said that this turtle symbolizes his ability to find refuge (in this case in the cool pond.)
Vann Nath was compelled to paint Pol Pot's portrait.
